Some Twitter folks and I were just discussing John Mayer, whose music I hate with the fire of a thousand suns. I noted that "Your Body Is A Wonderland" might be the worst song ever.
That, however, maybe be hyperbole. But that raises an important question: what is the worst song to ever hit it big? The worst song that actually had a significant following? I thing VH1 said it was "We Built This City".
Please, leave your comments as to songs that you absolutely, positively cannot stand because they are shitty. Spirited debate could/should follow.

I Walk Alone by Green Day.
That song by Tim McGraw and Nelly, something like Over and Over Again in which the lyrics of the song are repeated, well, over and over again. Aptly named but required little talent to write.
Although, the song you mentioned is right up there in the top spot too.
Charlene's "I've Never Been to Me"... I defy anyone to find a worse song...

R. Kelly's new song "Customer".
However, it will be my at-bat song for kickball in the fall.
anything on the radio
Don't Matter by Akon.
Summer Girls by LFO.
Crank That (Soulja Boy) by Soulja Boy Tell 'Em.
Do I need to go on?
Good call bob, I would say anything by Akon is game.
Anything Celine Dion warbles while throwing her arms out, Jesus-style.
Achy Breaky Heart.
"Have you ever (really, really really ever) loved a woman" by Brian Adams. I really really really think that song has some stupid cheesy lyrics.
Awesome list, guys. Agreed on R.Kelly and Soulja Boy, and I'm not submitting any country songs because the entire Toby Keith catalog would sweep. I submit the following:
From my youth:
"Cotton Eyed Joe" by Rednexx
The "Friends" theme song (ugh)
"Hanging By A Moment" by Lifehouse
I was going to go with "Skaterboi" by Avril Lavigne, but then I read the "Summer Girls" by LFO nomination. That one is pretty bad. And Nickelback. Everything involved with Nickelback. The lead singer was interviewed by Playboy recently. Is Chad Kroger really worth interviewing?
As a DJ and random kook, I have to disagree with you completely on Cotton Eyed Joe. There are few songs better to dance like an idiot to (or watch others do it) than this song - I would submit Billy Jean (or any 80s Michael Jackson song) as the only ones that can come close.
Personally, I would like to nominate whole genres, but I will limit myself to the song that repeates "I'll send an SOS to the world" for 4 minutes. I don't remember the name of the song for good reason.
I also have to add that the song One Shining Moment really needs to go.
It totally doesn't fit as the NCAA basketball championship anthem. You don't see anyone jamming out to Dan Fogelberg's Leader of the Band after the Super Bowl, do you? No. It's a total mood-killer, and doesn't fit the mood of the moment.
Dammit, now I'm all mad at music.
a. i actually kinda love "hanging by a moment." only problem with that song: Z107 didn't play it enough.
b. achy breaky heart may be the worst song ever... and i love it.
Coworker say Everyone knows its Windy..
boyfriend says soulja boy
that schwayze song bothers me and i think its the LFO song of this year.
jyoseph, there are lots of better candidates than I Walk Alone ...
reaching back to the '80s ....
how about Swingin or Van Halen's Jump? and in the last decade, country category, how about the Good Stuff by ol' what's his name ... Kenny Chesney, thank God for Google.
altho that Wendy song (c & c) might be close, as might Mmm-bop by Hansen.
so many candidates! too many ...
I Saw the Sign -- Ace of Base
1. Speaking of Tim McGraw, how about any duet he does with his wife? They make me uncomfortable.
2. Toby Keith is a gross beefcake.
3. A friend of mine compared Chad Kroger to a cockerspaniel. Brazilliant!
4. The song I hate most is "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas. That song gets stuck in my head for months at a time.
5. I hate "Hey There Delilah".
Oh, Stephanie, yes!! HTD is an atrocious song.
I know there are so many I hate that I just can't recall at the moment, but one that does come to mind is Lenny Kravitz's cover of "American Woman." It drones on and on... excruciating.
Also any song that uses "I" as the object of a preposition, the most common context being: "for you and I." Infuriating.
"We Built This City" was terrible indeed, but mostly because Grace Slick, who used to be so cool, decided to just suck things up big time.
I vote for Nickelback's "Rock Star" song (if that's the title; I'm not sure of what I dislike all the time). It may be new but it's auditory poison.
Come to My Window
and Butterfly Kisses.
nuff said.
Paula Cole...Where have all the cowboys gone?
I think they jumped off a cliff after hearing this song.
These are all good also-rans, but I have to second (and third) the vote for "Your Body is a Wonderland." I once was forced to listen to that entire CD 4 times and, though the whole thing is pretty rough, that song especially made me cringe.
